Desirable Skills and Qualifications
Purpose:

To achieve revenue targets and develop our market share through excellent customer service & curriculum guidance, influence the SMT and decisions makers, by offering qualifications and the Pearson product and service surround which exceeds expectations.

A Curriculum Development Manager is responsible for developing Pearson business across a group of FE Colleges, as well as influencing the curriculum development decisions made by LAs or other stakeholder groups as appropriate, in line with 14-19 government policy. The CDM will work collaboratively as appropriate with colleagues from Work Based Learning to build business across relevant FE Business units, in line with business priorities. A CDM provides expert professional guidance and support to FECs and as well as providing a high quality customer service, ensures that area and centre performance targets and business plans are met as agreed with the line manager.

The role covers the following responsibilities:

• Individual and area wide management of FECs
• Attainment of agreed sales targets
• Improving market share penetration in designated key products and qualification lines
• Curriculum advice and support to centres
• National and regional network support
• Key account management of agreed accounts
• Engagement and support given to key corporate initiatives and membership in short term project groups to meet revenue or market share targets
• Demonstrable individual contribution in developing educational initiatives that can be mapped to the corporate objectives leading to improved revenue attainment and/or market share gain

The CDM will work in collaboration with partner FE Curriculum Consultants and other relevant colleagues working in region and assist them in focused and targeted activity in given subject/product area(s).

Key Accountabilities:

Business Maintenance/Development

Working within the framework of Edexcel’s 14-19 and Adult Skills strategies promote Pearson and its services to all FE centres and their associated bodies using agreed strategies to maintain existing business and secure agreed business growth within a defined geographic area, in line with business priorities.

• Achieve agreed sales targets in FE centre[s] for new and incremental business growth. Targets being agreed with line manager.
• Maintain existing business in a geographic area / centres
• Secure targeted growth for key products and qualifications in line with Edexcel’s corporate strategy
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to secure targeted growth for identified campaigns.
• Implement Key Account strategy for designated centres
• Demonstrate individual entrepreneurial skill - working independently or collectively develop ideas and lead or contribute to initiatives that will support the attainment of revenue and / or attainment of market share

Support to centres

Provide a range of support and advisory services which fulfil Edexcel business objectives in a manner suited to centres’ context and priorities, within approved budgets.

• Provide customers with accurate and timely information in regard to Edexcel qualifications
and products
• Respond effectively to queries
• Provide support via national and regional networks

National Team

Develop and co ordinate activities to achieve optimum results for the company. Provide feedback from centres on service and product quality to all appropriate parts of the company.

Training

Promote training events to ensure maximum take up of training places.

Market Intelligence

CDMs will be expected to report weekly and periodically on activity in their centres and region relating to:

• Competitors and competitor activity with centres
• Competitor Products
• Customer intelligence including a clear understanding of total spend analysis within centres
• New Business by qualification, by cohort size and by start date

Other activities as agreed by the Line Manager.

Key Challenges

There may be tight deadlines from time to time, requiring prioritising of work.

The level of support may vary by product, requiring flexibility in managing demands and changed priorities.

• Maintenance of current business
• Market share attainment against targets
• Growth of business in key product areas
• Accuracy of projection of future business
• Closeness of relationship with the most important decision makers
• Strength of the interface with key decision makers in region
• Strength of customer service reputation
• Effectiveness of input to team regional operational planning activities
• Collaborative working with colleagues across the business
• Measures of success being recorded through centre activity plans.

Background Information:

The post holder will work within a team to provide generic curriculum advice and support to centres within a defined geographic area. The post holder will typically have a substantial caseload of FE centres based within a defined region.

Working Pattern:

The role is being offered on a permanent basis. It is full time and field based, covering the West Midlands.

All CDM’s will be expected to attend regional meetings/company conferences and any other appropriate training events organised throughout the calendar year. Extensive travel and occasional overnight stays will be required. Please note that a clean driving licence is essential for this role.


Candidate Profile

Essential:
- Experience of having worked in the education, learning and/or training sectors.
- Clean Driving Licence
- Up to date understanding of key education initiatives.
- Educated to degree or equivalent level.
- Proficient in PowerPoint and Excel, IQS.
- Pro-active, self starter.
- Exceptional communication skills both written and oral.
- Numerate.
- Good team player.
- Attention to detail.

Desirable:

Understanding of the key channels Edexcel operates in.

Experience of having worked in a sales or marketing role.

Personal Style and Behaviour:

A proven individual with the ability to co-ordinate resources to get things done. Adopts a pro-active working style, constantly looking for improvements. Someone hard working and highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills, well organised and with and a keen eye for spotting things that need to be done.
